Entangled 2006

Mixed media: silk fabric, rigid foam, household paint and cardboard egg boxes.

The two twisted circles, linked together with no way to disentangle, are distorted and pliable and rely on each other for support. The egg boxes are representational of women’s bodies – they are egg containers, and women are born with all their eggs. The red fabric is strong yet fragile and hugely versatile. Fabric and sewing have played a huge part in women’s history, so the use of fabric might be seen to symbolise many things: from women’s oppression by men to the mutual support that women might give each other while sewing.
